  PERSIAN GABBEH 5'3" X 5'11" SOLID COLOR RUGPersian Gabbeh deep red/wine hued rug with white fringes; measures approximately 5'3" x 5'11"; in Good overall condition. In Farsi, the traditional language of Persia, the word Gabbeh means raw, natural, or uncut. Gabbeh rugs are tribal rugs originating in the south central region of the Zagros mountains in Iran. Women traditionally made these rugs which have geometric shapes and often told a story or conveyed an emotion through their design and bright colors. Gabbeh rugs are much thicker than other Persian rugs and are made of natural, hand-spun wool yarn and all the colors a created with natural plant dye.

  IRANIAN PERSIAN SAROUK TABRIZ HAND KNOTTED CARPETFeatured in this lot is this Iranian Persian Sarouk Tabriz hand knotted carpet circa mid 1900's. The carpet features a wonderfully and professionally crafted 50% wool and 50% construction that shows a hand knotted pile woven design. The carpet features its original tag on the underside of the carpet and reads as follows: No. 78 - Size 395 x 290 - Made in Iran - Hand Knotted 50% Wool 50% Cotton. The carpet features a large red field and a smaller geometric medallion in the center with floral decoration to the triple border to the carpet and features a shorter fringe on both sides of the carpet. Sarouk rugs have been produced for much of the twentieth century. The early successes of the Sarouk rug are largely owed to the American market. From the 1910s to 1950s, the "American Sarouk", also known as the "painted Sarouk", was produced. Many merchants bought the old and antique Persian rugs from all over Iran and exported them to other countries. They used the city of Tabriz in northwest Iran to export these antiques to Europe via Erzurum in Turkey. Some merchants also used the southern ports on the Persian Gulf to export Persian rugs to the US by ship. The condition of this large rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this large rug is 156" x 115".
